Laser-Engraved 3-Part Pain Tokens
Bring on the Pain!
The new 2010 Codex: Dark Eldar™ from Games Workshop has an exciting new gameplay mechanic called "Power From Pain". The majority of the units in the new Dark Eldar™ army can gain PAIN TOKENS, one token for each time they wipe out an enemy unit. A unit can gain up to three of these tokens, and each Pain Token gives the unit a substantial (and cumulative!) gameplay boost.
(Silver Compass Designs is not affiliated with Games Workshop Limited in any way, other than being die-hard fans of their work).
Each of these felt-backed 3-Part Pain Tokens comes with 3 unique pieces (enough for a unit or Character), and when assembled form a larger circular token with the image of a stylzed skull - to let your opponent know of the imminent death of their army by the Dark Kin!
The individual Pain Token pieces each measure 28mm wide at their widest point, 2mm thick with felt backing, and when 3 are arranged they create a circular piece 30mm (~1.25 inches) wide.
These tokens are made using Silver Compass Designs' unique patent-pending process for a truly 3D presentation.
The Tokens are made from clear US-made acrylic (Plexiglass™). The tokens are supplied with the engraving unpainted. This is the most unique part of the tokens from Silver Compass Designs: with other companies, your tokens look just like the tokens everyone else has. We at Silver Compass Designs believe that tabletop gaming tokens should be just like your tabletop army: distinguishable from those of other players due to how you customize/paint them yourself. Our tokens are designed so you can easily make them as unique as your army.
How Our Laser-Engraved Tokens Are Made
(& How You Customize Them!)
The tokens are made using Silver Compass Designs' Patent-Pending production method:
- We precision laser-cut the outline of the token from acrylic material at our laser engineering facility in the mid-western USA.
- The back of the token is coated with a special paint
- A mirror image of the graphics are laser-engraved through the paint deep into the clear acrylic itself.
The result is a 3D engraving when viewed through the clear face of the token.
You receive your tokens with the engraving unpainted. This is the most unique part of the tokens from Silver Compass Designs: with other companies, your tokens look just like everybody else's tokens.
We at Silver Compass Designs believe that tabletop gaming tokens should be just like your tabletop army: distinguishable from those of other players because the final details are chosen by you!.
Customizing your tokens is as easy as 1-2-3:
- Just to paint into the engraving to match the color scheme of your army (unlike with models, you can be sloppy when painting the tokens, since any overspills will not show from the front of the token - see examples below).
- Let the paint dry and slap on the supplied self-adhesive felt backing.
- Flip it over, peel off the protective plastic covering on the face of the token and your tokens are ready for the tabletop battlefield!

Here's an example the rear of a a token unpainted, painted and the end result from the front:

We've had a few questions from customers on how you can be sloppy with the painting and still have a look good from the front. We've come up with a cute little cartoon explaining it here.
